Girl, I got some braids

Saturday, April 17, 2021

Hey sister girl! So yesss girl I done did it! I had got me some jumbo knotless braids. Why haven't we BEEN doing knotless braids? They keep from having that bulky look at the roots and they're more protective for your edges!

But anyways girl, I just wanted to share with you my new hairstyle. (I actually took my braids out last week but I'm just now sharing the photos haha). But my younger sister did them for me. It took her about five hours so it was really nice to get to bond with her.

This was the first time I'd had weave in my head for over a year I think. While it was super cute and made me look amazing lol, it was too heavy. I woke up with headaches and sometimes got them throughout the day. Unfortunately, I ended up having to take them out after about a week of having them. *sad face.*

But, since we're sort of on the topic of beauty, 1 Peter chapter 3 verses 3-4 came to my mind. It says this,

"Don't let your beauty consist of outward things like elaborate hairstyles and wearing gold jewelry or fine clothes, but rather what is inside the heart - the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight."

So 1 Peter chapter 3 starts off with Peter telling the wives to submit to themselves to their husbands. Even if you go back to chapter 2, it talks about submission in the work place and submission to government. And then it goes on to talk about this inward beauty and the qualities of a gentle and quiet spirit. What does this mean?

Well, it doesn't mean to literally be outwardly quiet or to be an introverted woman. And it doesn't mean you can't look cute lol. Rather, the author is saying that when we are completely submitted to God, it's because we trust Him, and when we trust Him, our spirit is at rest. We're able to truly be still and know that God is God. You're able to say Lord, I surrender my will, my agenda, my expectations. It's a spirit that's not riled up. A spirit that doesn't feel the need to take matters into her own hands and figure things out on her own. A spirit that doesn't try to do things in her own strength. A spirit at rest, because she has placed everything in God's hands. When we do that, our spirits are finally able to be silent and rest.

And that is how as a wife, you're able to submit yourself to your husband. That's how you're able to be still, inwardly quiet and wait on and trust your husband. Essentially, you're trusting the God in your husband. I'm not a wife of a man, but I completely believe that the absolute best quality that a woman can have as a wife is a gentle and quiet spirit. Essentially, a heart that trusts God and isn't driven by fear because she knows that God is for her, she knows God loves her, and she knows that God has her best interests in mind.

Well sisters, this was a fun one to write. I hope that it was encouraging. It was for me. Know that having that gentle and quiet spirit isn't something that happens over night. It takes time, practice, grace with yourself, trial and error, spending time with God and in the word. Also know that it's not something you learn and are perfect at the rest of your life. Trusting God is a daily practice. It gets easier over time, but your trust in God will be tested and challenged until your last breath.

Zechariah 2:13 - "Be silent before the LORD, all humanity, for He is springing into action from his holy dwelling."

Your sister,

Rickari

Younger sister lol
